The Bob Jones Homeschool Curriculum

Since 1979, the Bob Jones curriculum has been a popular choice with homeschooling families. This Christian homeschool program provides students with a well-rounded course of study for preschool through twelfth grade, with each subject biblically integrated. In addition to the core subject areas, Bob Jones also offers courses in specialized subjects. An important aspect of the Bob Jones program is the belief that whichever method of instruction is used it is essential that the child fully understands what he is learning. Simply memorizing the material, without understanding it, is not beneficial to the student. There is a strong emphasis on critical thinking skills with real life applications.

Bob Jones University Press

Founded in 1973, the main purpose of the Bob Jones University Press was to provide quality educational materials to homeschooling families and schools with a strong Christian philosophy integrated within the texts. Through the decades that followed, the Bob Jones University Press, now known as BJU Press, grew to be the largest United States supplier of textbooks to homeschooling families.

The Bob Jones Distance Learning Program

The Bob Jones Distance Learning program for homeschooling families is available through the following methods:

DVD
Hard drive
Satellite - ending in the spring of 2009
Online – Beginning in the summer of 2009

DVD Program

Families that choose the DVD program lease it from BJU Press and complete the lessons at their own convenience. Students view the classes on a DVD player, television set or computer, making it a portable learning method. With this program, more than one child can view the lessons without paying an additional per child fee. The DVD distance learning program is available as an inclusive grade package, kindergarten through sixth grade and seventh through twelfth grade or by individual grade levels.

Hard Drive Program

Homeschooling families that choose the distance learning hard drive option lease a complete program for one grade level that they keep for one year. The hard drive simply plugs into a USB port on a computer and the student is ready to follow the lessons. An easy to follow menu makes the computer program very user friendly. The BJU hard drive program is available for kindergarten through eighth grade.

Satellite Program

The satellite distance learning program is carried by the Bob Jones Homesat Satellite Network and is provided by subscription only. Scheduled to end in the spring of 2009, the satellite program will transition to the online distance learning program.

Online Program

Beginning in the summer of 2009, BJU will provide distance learning online with registration for these programs beginning on June 1, 2009. Although details of this program are not yet available, highlights include:

Offering complete grade levels and subject areas
Instruction provided by experienced, certified teachers
Classes for kindergarten through twelfth grade
Online assignments included free
Discounts for two or more distance learning grade kits
Convenient monthly payment plan

The BJU Homeschool Helper

An online newsletter published four times a year by the BJU Press, the Homeschool Helper is an excellent resource for Christian homeschooling families. The purpose of the newsletter is to support and encourage homeschooling families everywhere. Included in the newsletter are:
